The Art of Hypnotherapy teaches us that the mind is not our master: it is our personal servant, a tool for problem-solving and unwrapping mysteries. And it can be used to initiate profound changes in our lives, and find answers which we may have previously thought impossible.

The deep relaxation of hypnosis calms your body and mind, allowing communication with the subconscious. A self-induced trance can come as easily as daydreaming, and by learning more about guided imagery and the techniques of self-hypnosis, you can access inner understanding, knowledge you will then turn into action. Using the methods of hypnotherapy, you can improve your physical, emotional, and spiritual life through self-healing and increased intuition. Hypnotherapy is holistic, addressing your mind, body and spirit for increased wellness and insight.

In hypnosis, you remain in control of your own consciousness, with the hypnotherapist acting as your guide throughout the process. Suggestions given are of a gentle, positive nature to help you with problem-resolution and life-enhancement. A hypnotherapist will reassure you regarding any fears you may have about hypnosis, which are often created by inaccurate depictions in the media as well as by hypnotists in entertainment. Hypnotherapists cannot produce behavior any client that he or she would be morally opposed to.

It is also important to distinquish between hypnotherapy and stage hypnosis. A stage hypnotist can induce a trance in a suggestible subject simply for the sake of demonstrating certain abilities of the mind. Because the mind is truly our servant and not our master, the job of the stage hypnotist is to exhibit what a willing servant it can be under hypnotic suggestion. A hypnotherapist, however, is trained to induce deep relaxation for the sake of opening your subconscious to suggestions that help improve your well-being and quality of life. A hypnotherapist teaches techniques in self-hypnosis that will empower you, and this process strengthens your work together. Remember, a hypnotherapist will act as your guide; you as the client always remain in control.

Certified hypnotherapists must complete an approved course of study, receive training, and pass an examination in order to qualify for certification by one or more of several
hypnosis organizations. Regulations regarding practice vary by state.
